Township leadership recognizes that aging sewer infrastructure will require more thorough maintenance in the years to come to avoid larger long-term costs and prevent overflow events.
Shifting the Utility Department's focus from pretreatment administration to overall collection system maintenance will allow many of these critical projects to be completed. The Board of Supervisors will consider approving a Pretreatment Program Consulting Services contract with Gannett Fleming Inc. at its March 6 meeting.
The contract covers consulting services related permit review and issuance; annual inspections; fat, oil, and grease (FOG) user monitoring; and various compliance reporting efforts. The Township will continue to oversee the Pretreatment Program and perform specific tasks, such as FOG Inspections, in-house.
The Pretreatment Program was previously managed by the Pretreatment Administrator position within the Township's Utilities Department. However, this position was eliminated and replaced with a Sewer Field Manager position to maintain and support the sewer system more effectively. The contract frees up capacity to push forward with necessary sewer maintenance and initiatives.
