[ARCHIVED] Cranberry Police Partner with 'Neighbors' App

Cranberry’s residents can help keep their community safe with just a few taps on their smart phones.

A new partnership between the Township Police Department and the makers of Ring doorbell will help the community stay informed about local safety incidents and share information with the department.

Neighbors Public Safety Service allows local public safety agencies to join and use Neighbors, a free app by Ring designed to engage the community whether they own a Ring device or not.

Agencies across the country use Neighbors to share important, hyper-local crime and safety information with their residents, view and respond to publicly posted content on the app, and request assistance from residents to help make their neighborhoods safer.

Residents can also share information with the Department if they so choose. Neighbors was designed so that residents decide what information is shared to the app and whether they wish to respond to a public agency’s request for information.

“With the app, we’ll be able to ask our community for tips and information, and receive pertinent information in real time,” said Lt. William Ahlgren, the Department’s Community Relations officer. “We hope the community embraces this opportunity to assist us in keeping Cranberry safe for everyone.”

Public safety agencies do not have access to user cameras, live streams or personal information when using the app. Through Neighbors, public safety users can only view videos and other information if it has been publicly posted on the app or explicitly shared with the agency in response to a request. Additionally, addresses and identities are not shared, making for a secure exchange of information.

Download the Neighbors App for free on iOS, Android and FireOS devices. Residents do not need to own a Ring device or any home security system to participate on Neighbors.
