ON BEHALF OF BUTLER COUNTY ELECTIONS BUREAU
Due to the high number of mail ballot requests in Butler County, there is a slight delay in voters receiving their ballots.
A total of 17,000 ballots will be in the mail by this weekend, covering all past requests for mail ballots. However, the Board of Elections continues to receive a high volume of requests for mail ballots.
Officials believe the duplicate requests are the result of the high number of third-party mailings voters are receiving which makes them think their request was not processed. This is yet another issue that is consuming staff time and slowing down the mail process.
Additionally, there is a problem originating at the Department of State in the SURE system. Voters who are monitoring the status of their ballot online are suddenly seeing that it was mailed out in early September - before the candidate list was even certified.
This issue is impacting elections bureaus statewide and causing a high volume of calls. Rest assured, the Department of State is aware and working to resolve the issue.
Please be patient as the Board of Elections works through these issues.
