The fall sky may still have bursts of sun, but the Township Board of Supervisors had FOG on their minds during their September 24 meeting.
But it wasn’t hazy atmosphere that was drawing their focus. Instead, it was fats, oils and grease, which can harm wastewater systems – even the newly renovated Brush Creek Water Pollution Control Facility.
Because of the potential for damage to the new system, the Board approved a replacement of the Township’s wastewater pre-treatment regulations.
The changes focus on industrial facilities that generate process wastewater to strengthen pretreatment requirements. It also includes a new enforcement response plan that will ensure compliance with the Environmental Protection Agency and the state Department of Environmental Protection.
