A ceremony officially opening the area is set for 9:30 AM, Saturday, November 16 at the Penn Power Shelter at North Boundary Park. The public is invited for the ribbon-cutting, as well as a “pack walk” immediately following.
Donuts and coffee will be provided by Rollaway Dog Café and All Home Pet Care.
For the first time, leashed dogs will be permitted at the North Boundary Disc Golf Course and Nature Trail Areas. With that allowance comes new rules, which will be outlined on signage placed at various areas in the park. Paw prints painted on the trails also show where dogs are permitted.
In conjunction with the opening, a team of volunteer ambassadors has been assembled to roam the trails at peak hours and inform pet owners of the rules. The group’s goal is education, not confrontation, officials said. Those found in violation of the rules potentially face a $35 fine, which is enforced by Township police.
With the new program, the Township now boasts three dog-friendly areas, including the Brush Creek Trail Extension off Commonwealth Drive, two miles of trails in North Boundary and the dog park in Community Park.
