A new stormwater management operating agreement was approved at the November 7 meeting of Cranberry’s Board of Supervisors.
The agreement provides for the Township to implement a new stormwater management program, funded through the General Authority, that includes a new stormwater fee that will be added to the monthly sewer/water/trash bill in the amount of $3 per month for 2020 and $6 monthly in 2021 for single family residences. Multi-family buildings and non-residential properties will also be invoiced based on their impervious surfaces.
The decision to utilize a utility approach to stormwater management resulted from a new set of requirements by U.S. EPA and the state’s Department of Environmental protection which increase the level of required storm sewer maintenance and impose a new anti-pollution regimen on the Township.
The Program’s initial emphasis will be increased capital improvements to the existing system. Many other municipalities in Western Pennsylvania are also initiating stormwater fees to comply with the new regulations, Cranberry’s fee is one of the lowest in the region.
