The rationale for a new stormwater management fee on developed properties in the Township was explained at the October 30 meeting of Cranberry’s Board of Supervisors. The rate – $3 per month for 2020 and $6 monthly in 2021 – was advanced by the Cranberry General Authority, a body formed several years ago to handle various Township initiatives. The decision to consider a stormwater utility approach, which will be collected through the Township’s monthly water bills, resulted from a new set of requirements by EPA and the state’s Department of Environmental protection which increase the level of required storm sewer maintenance and impose a new anti-pollution regimen on the Township. The Board will consider entering into an agreement with the Authority concurring with the proposed approach at their November 7 meeting. Many other municipalities in the region are also initiating stormwater fees to comply with the new regulations.
