The rationale for a proposed monthly fee on all developed real estate in Cranberry to help finance the Township’s stormwater management program was outlined at the October 3 meeting of Cranberry’s Board of Supervisors. The program is designed to address new federal and state regulations that require the Township to manage the quality of stormwater, along with the quantity. The fee, which would be imposed by the Cranberry Township General Authority, would be $3 a month for each single-family unit starting next year, rising to $6 monthly in 2021. Commercial property fees would be based on the impervious area within each parcel. Cranberry currently spends over $1 million a year from general tax revenues on stormwater system maintenance, with those costs anticipated to rise to nearly $2 million+ as new state and federal requirements take effect. The Board agreed to consider acting on the proposal at a future meeting, following a scheduled open house on the topic, Wednesday October 9, from 4:00-7:00 PM, in Council Chambers.
