A Township committee of business owners and dog enthusiasts – the Cranberry K9 Connection – has been meeting regularly to test ideas, solicit input, and secure help from the private sector in expanding dog access within the community. On September 5, the group’s recommendations were presented to Cranberry’s Board of Supervisors. They include creating limited dog access to the new disc golf and nature trail in North Boundary Park using a three-pronged approach: Erecting detailed signage regarding where dogs are and are not allowed; Forming an all-volunteer Park Ambassador program to help educate dog owners about park rules in a non-confrontational way; Police enforcement using $35 citations for those who persistently violate those rules. A Master Plan that includes relocation of the current dog park to a flatter, more shared part of Cranberry Park North, as well as authorization to advertise needed ordinance amendments to implement the recommendations, were approved by the Board.
