A bicycle accident on Haine School Road in early October put the life of its rider, 13-year old Alexander Kovac, at risk from blood loss when a major artery in his thigh was punctured by a bike part when he fell after hitting a curb. But the heroic actions of two Township residents who happened upon the scene – Crystal Bollinger and Nikki Lindberg – were instrumental in staunching the blood flow and stabilizing the boy until EMS arrived and rushed him to the hospital. At the Board of Supervisors meeting on November 15, Cranberry Township EMS, Cranberry Police, and the Cranberry Township Volunteer Fire Company jointly presented their Hero Award to the two women for outstanding lifesaving efforts.
