Shopping has changed and so have shopping centers. The post-war strip centers with parking in
front and curb cuts at either end are sooo last century. But even in an age of online retail, shoppingcenters serve an important economic and social function, and good design can
help. So, for the past year, Cranberry’sPlanning and Development Services Department has worked on updating the
Township’s zoning ordinance’s shopping center stipulations. Its goal: to make shopping centers moreattractive, more pedestrian-friendly, and better connected to adjacent
properties. At its February 22 meeting,Cranberry’s Board of Supervisors heard a presentation and accepted testimony on
the new ordinance, agreeing to consider final action on March 1.
