The provisions of a state traffic improvement grant award, which Cranberry applied for last year, were formally accepted by the Township’s Board of Supervisors at its June 30 meeting. The grant, which will be matched by the Township, will reimburse Cranberry for $50,000 of the cost of the hardware and software required to transform three traffic signals on Rt. 19 into adaptive signals – where their timing is adjusted to match real-time traffic conditions. The intersections affected are at St. Francis Way, Short Street, and Hartners Drive. Adaptive signals have been gradually replacing time-of-day controlled signals at busy intersections along Cranberry’s major corridors. The adaptive technology financed by the Green Light-GO grant is part of the Township’s large-scale traffic management initiative to improve traffic flow, safety, and air quality throughout Cranberry and the region as a whole. Additional applications for funding under the Green Light-GO program for future improvements have also been submitted. For more information, contact Jason Kratsas, Director, Engineering
