In February, the construction bids that came in for Phase One of the Brush Creek wastewater treatment plant were much higher than engineers’ original estimate: $56 million instead of $42 million. So the project was reconfigured with some of its key components moved from Phase One into Phase Two, which isn’t expected to start until at least ten years after the first phase is completed. The revised specifications were sent out for another round of contractor quotes. The result: Phase One would cost a total of $45.7 million – higher than first expected, but closer to its original range, and still bring the project to completion by 2019. At the April 28 meeting of Cranberry’s Board of Supervisors, Engineering Director Jason Kratsas reviewed the bids, which covered four separate contracts and various options within each of them. The Board agreed to consider awarding contracts at its May 5 meeting. Also on May 5, the Board agreed it would consider approving documents authorizing the use or purchase of nearby land to provide parking for the contractors’ workers and for the placement of fill.
