Cranberry’s “super block” – currently the site of its most intense commercial activity – could soon become a walkable downtown neighborhood. At its March 31 meeting, following public comment, Cranberry’s Board of Supervisors adopted the proposed zoning change which would allow for high-density multi-family development in the northernmost two parcels of the block by changing their current SU-1 zoning to C-3. The area, bounded by Rt. 19, Freedom Road, Executive Drive and Brandt Drive, is currently home to numerous stores, restaurants and professional offices. The change also visualizes extending Brandt Drive west to Executive Drive. Public testimony focused largely on the potential impact of eliminating certain uses. By adding a high-density residential component and eliminating various incompatible uses, the rezoning is intended to retain the Super Block’s vibrancy over the long-term.
