Water Safety Day – a project of the Seneca Valley school district to teach kids aquatic safety – recently received top recognition from a statewide conference of recreation professionals. On March 31, the program was also honored by Cranberry’s Board of Supervisors. Now in its third year, the program, which was created by Cranberry Township Supervisor and Seneca Valley teacher Mike Manipole, takes place at three different community pools including Evans City, Zelienople, and Cranberry. According to school district Assistant Superintendent Sean McCarty, all 4,500 elementary school pupils in the district pass through the program. Township Parks & Recreation Director Pete Geis, noted that lessons include rules of behavior affecting pools as well as watching and listening to lifeguards. This year’s program will take place at Cranberry’s Waterpark on the mornings of June 1 and 2. For more information, contact Pete Geis, Director, Parks & Recreation
