The state of Cranberry’s Volunteer Fire Company should encourage residents to feel good about their fire department, according to Fire Company President Ed Hestin. As part of the organization’s annual report to Cranberry’s Board of Supervisors on January 28, Hestin reviewed the Company’s operations, including the record high volume of alarms recorded last year: 716 – up five percent from the 686 calls of 2014. Although the fire company’s 137 members include 61 front-line firefighters, recruitment and retention of volunteers – particularly those available during daylight hours – will remain a priority for 2016. A dedicated Township property tax funds the fire company’s operations and capital expenses. A new five-year strategic plan for the company, currently under preparation, is expected to be completed this spring. For more information, contact Jeff Schueler, Director, Public Safety
