Home2 Suites by Hilton, an all-suite extended stay hotel at the roundabout of Cranberry Woods Drive and Longtree Way, has been welcoming guests for more than a year. Recently, in connection with its owner’s effort to refinance the structure, a specialist was dispatched to examine the site and make sure everything with the building was in order. However, during the examination, an anomaly was found: one corner of the building was actually two feet closer to the street than it was supposed to be. Although a modification to reduce the required setback had previously been approved, the peculiar geometry of that road segment meant that another corner of the building was actually two feet closer – something which had been overlooked during construction. To bring the building into compliance, making it eligible for financing, Cranberry’s Board of Supervisors on January 28 heard public testimony and used the Conditional Use process to award another modification, reducing its setback by another two feet.
