The innovative UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex at the intersection of Rt. 228 and I-79 in Cranberry Township is about to open its doors. The complex will serve as the primary practice and training facility for the Pittsburgh Penguins as well as a comprehensive outpatient facility for UPMC Sports Medicine. It is expected to become a major destination for athletes of all ages and skill levels seeking skill training, performance testing, sports medicine and rehabilitation services.
Cranberry Township Manager Jerry Andree joined Butler County Tourism & Convention Bureau President Jack Cohen in welcoming the high-profile addition to their community. The Bureau will coordinate housing arrangements for visitors to the Complex. More than 10,000 pre-registrants plan to attend the open house on Sunday, August 16th. Guests will have a first-hand look at the new facility as well as the opportunity to test out its ice rink during four and a half hours of open skating. Over the course of the year, more than 400,000 people are expected to visit the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex with six hockey tournaments already secured.
