Plans for a major upgrade to the Brush Creek wastewater treatment plant, which is expected to cost upwards of $50 million, are about to experience an independent technical review. The upgrade, which will significantly increase the plant’s capacity while satisfying the higher standards now required by the Department of Environmental Protection, uses membrane technology – filters which, in combination with the plant’s current biological treatment process, would allow the facility to treat more wastewater in a shorter period of time than any of the alternative approaches which had been considered. At its February 5 meeting Cranberry’s Board of Supervisors authorized funds for Herbert, Rowland & Grubic to review the design documents and submit a report on their findings before contractor bids on the plan are solicited this fall.
