[ARCHIVED] Senior firefighters honored

The outstanding service contributions of veteran volunteer firefighters Jim Cole and Chris DeCree to the Cranberry community were recognized with a resolution of appreciation by the Township’s Board of Supervisors at its October 2 meeting. Cole, a life member of CTVFC who currently serves as the Company’s Chaplain, is certified as a Firefighter I, Driver, and Safety Officer. He joined the Company in 1975 and led the effort to restore the fire company’s original engine – a 1928 Pirsch pumper – to pristine condition. Chris DeCree, who served as Company President for more than 15 years following a 30-year law enforcement career in the eastern part of the state, joined CTVFC in 1983. During much of that time, his volunteer work with the Fire Company exceeded 2,000 hours a year – easily the equivalent of a full-time employee anywhere else. His certifications include Firefighter I, Driver, and Fire Instructor I. But perhaps his greatest satisfaction has come from educating thousands of children and adults in fire prevention and safety.
