A 30-day public comment period on planned upgrades to the Brush Creek sewage treatment plant will begin July 21. The plant currently treats an average of 3.4 million gallons a day from Cranberry, Marshall, Pine, and Bradford Woods as well as a small part of New Sewickley. It has a design capacity of 4.5 million gallons a day and a rated peak flow of 23 million gallons.
However an overload which occurred in 2011 triggered demands for a Corrective Action Plan from the state Department of Environmental Protection. Those plans are now in place and include an expansion of the facility to address the overload condition, to add plant capacity for future growth, and to satisfy recent regulatory changes.
Written comments should be submitted to the attention of Timothy J. Schutzman at Cranberry Township, 2525 Rochester Road, Suite 400, Cranberry Township, PA 16066. Comments will be accepted until 5:00 PM on August 20.
