[ARCHIVED] Water rates are going up

An increase in the price of water for Cranberry customers will take effect with the September 27 meter reading.  The increase, which was approved by Cranberry’s Board of Supervisors on June 28, is in response to a 31% price increase from the West View Water Authority, Cranberry’s sole supplier of fresh water, which is using the proceeds to build a new treatment plant that will eventually serve Township residents.  For homes that are serviced by 5/8-inch supply lines – the most common size – the Township’s base rate for water service will increase from $6 to $7 a month, while its usage rate goes from $6.48 to $7.47 per 1,000 gallons, resulting in a price of about ¾ of a cent per gallon.  By way of comparison, Pennsylvania American Water, which serves many other communities in the region, charges $16.50 a month for a 5/8-inch line and 1.22 cents per gallon.
