Join Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) professor and avid Star Wars fan, Yoosuf Picard, on a mission to explore the science behind the Star Wars universe. Dr. Picard will lead a discussion on how Star Wars technology relates to the real world and
what defies the laws of science as we know them. A special focus of the program will be scientific principles behind lasers and plasma, and how light sabers share important similarities and characteristics.
Dr. Picard is currently an Associate Research Professor at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at CMU where he develops and applies advanced electron microscopy methods for testing and analyzing the microstructure of next-generation materials. In addition to his involvement with many projects and organizations, Dr. Picard serves on the Materials ExplorerTM Committee and has played an active role in the development of the program for The Minerals Metals, and Materials Society (TMS). Monday, October 23 from 7-9 PM. Registration required. High school students and up.
