In response to growing gun violence and mass casualty events, UPMC launched the nation’s largest “Stop the Bleed” campaign and partnered with Cranberry Township EMS to help deliver its tourniquet training. The Township and EMS have incorporated that training into the Police department’s bi-annual certification program. At its June 29 meeting, representatives of CTEMS and UPMC presented the officers with their certifications. Also at the meeting, the American Heart Association recognized CTEMS for its outstanding care of cardiac patients by presenting it with the Association’s Lifeline EMS Bronze Plus Award. Of the approximately 20,000 EMS agencies in the United States, only 626 have earned that distinction.
