Starting March 20, Penn Power will be looking down on its transmission lines and associated hardware in Cranberry. Three small helicopters will either hover above, or move slowly between, the company’s high-voltage power structures. An on-board inspector will determine whether any maintenance is required using both visual inspection and ultraviolet/infrared detectors mounted to the bottom of the aircraft. The helicopters’ flight plans are updated daily with the appropriate government agencies.
