Pennsylvania’s Medical Marijuana Law, enacted this past May, sets out a series of conditions under which medical marijuana can be grown, prescribed and distributed for use in connection with medical conditions such as epilepsy. At the same time, state lawmakers added provisions designed to make sure nobody would use their cannabis for recreation or be tempted to make up stories to get a prescription. At its December 15 meeting, Cranberry’s Board of Supervisors gave final approval to several amendments of the Township’s zoning ordinance which would make Cranberry compliant with the state law. Specifically, it recognized marijuana growing as just another agricultural activity and approved the placement of marijuana dispensaries anywhere a traditional pharmacy could operate. At the same meeting, the Board expanded the allowable placement of veterinary hospitals to anywhere in the Township that business and medical offices can locate, unless they provide animal boarding services, which is a more restricted land use.
