[ARCHIVED] EMS focuses on health and injury prevention

According to EMS Executive Director Jeff Kelly, the Cranberry ambulance organization is hard at work transitioning from the industry’s traditional business model, which he characterized as “you call, we haul,” to becoming a community-focused health maintenance and safety organization. That shift has required a culture change involving its staffing, policies, equipment and training, as well as its public outreach programs, Kelly said in his 2015 report to Cranberry’s Board of Supervisors on February 25. At the same time, however, the agency’s transportation service continued to grow in 2015, totaling 3,726 calls versus 3,540 in 2014. The year also saw the 32-member service adopt a new strategic plan, receive multiple individual awards and gain new certifications, as well as adding to its roster of community partnerships which include participation in a community health needs assessment involving both UPMC and AHN.
