Pennsylvania is the only state in the nation which prohibits its local police departments from using radar as the basis for speeding citations. Although Pennsylvania state troopers have been able to use that technology for decades, local law enforcement is obliged to use other, more cumbersome techniques to track driving speeds and issue tickets to violators. As a result, Township police are hampered in their ability to respond to requests for speed enforcement from local residents. But a pair of bills in the state General Assembly, if enacted, would empower municipal police to use that technique. To back the legislation, Cranberry’s Board of Supervisors approved a resolution of support at its September 3 meeting.
