[ARCHIVED] Slow-down campaign picks up speed

Yard signs, speed trailers, and traffic counters are about to go up for a week in 24 Cranberry Township neighborhoods starting June 8, along with increased police patrols, as part of the Township’s Slow-Down driving campaign for 2015. The well-received program, now in its fifth year, is built around a nationwide promotion designed to raise driver awareness of 25 miles per hour residential speed limits. A second slow-down campaign is scheduled to take place during the first week of school in August. In his April 30 report to Cranberry’s Board of Supervisors, Assistant Township Manager Duane McKee explained the timing of the campaign as coinciding with the start and conclusion of summer recess – times which typically bring children and pets out and around Township roadways. The Drive 25 campaign, with strong support from neighborhood homeowner associations, is intended to raise driver attentiveness of the need for increased vigilance and speed moderation.
