An additional eastbound lane on Rt. 228 between I-79 and Franklin Road has been part of Cranberry’s 228 Master Plan for a number of years. Now it’s about to enter the engineering and design stage, which is expected to cost the Township about a million dollars. But a million dollar grant issued at the end of Governor Corbett’s tenure last year could reimburse those expenses. At its April 30 meeting, Cranberry’s Board of Supervisors agreed to consider a resolution accepting a reimbursement agreement with PennDOT for those design-related expenses. A bid package for the project could be ready by the fall of 2016 with construction on the project – estimated to total somewhere in the range of $5 million – could begin as early as spring of 2017.
