Two of Cranberry’s finest received promotions to the rank of Sergeant at the February 5 meeting of the Township’s Board of Supervisors. William Ahlgren, who joined the department as a patrolman in 1999, is a 1988 graduate of the Rochester Institute of Technology. In 2001, he was assigned to the department’s traffic unit and in 2011, became unit head, responsible for traffic enforcement, investigation, and reconstruction of serious crashes. In addition to a variety of other law enforcement activities, Ahlgren is a firefighter in the Cranberry Township Volunteer Fire Company. Matt Irvin, a 1999 University of Pennsylvania graduate, joined the Township’s police department in 2003. He worked in its patrol unit until 2010, at which time he was assigned to criminal investigation. He has been responsible for overseeing that unit – whose work involves a rapidly increasing volume of electronic forensics – for the past three years. In addition to recognizing their outstanding job performance, the promotions are part of an effort to build the administrative capacity of the entire department, to which Kevin Meyer was named Chief last month.
