Purdue University, like Carnegie-Mellon and PennDOT, has a keen interest in improving the flow of traffic through the use of data management systems. But there aren’t many communities with the technology to capture that data. Cranberry is the exception with some of the most advanced traffic monitoring and tracking technology of any community in the country. At its February 5 meeting, Cranberry’s Board of Supervisors approved a traffic video and data sharing agreement with the Joint Transportation Research Program, which operates out of Purdue University’s civil engineering office. The program is focused on developing a system to improve intersection management using a module of the same Centrax signal software that Cranberry has been using for the past year.
