Public comment on a proposed amendment to Cranberry’s land development ordinance which would assess one-time recreational fees on new commercial and institutional buildings in the Township was heard at the Board of Supervisors’ April 24 meeting. Since the mid-1990s, only residential units have been charged the fee – currently $1,050 per living unit – payable at the time its building permit was issued. As an alternative, as part of their projects, developers could dedicate land for use as a public recreational facility, but few actually choose to do so. Transportation Impact fees, which the Township has also collected on new building projects for more than 20 years, are assessed on both residential and non-residential structures. The proposed recreational fee ordinance change would parallel the transportation fee, although the basis of calculating the two would be different. Recreational fees would be used to support Cranberry’s Recreation and Parks Master Plan. At the Township’s request, public hearing on the proposal will resume on May 29, when more details are expected to be available.
