A cloud of melancholy hung over the March 19 meeting of Cranberry Township’s Community Chest board of directors. Their disappointment was triggered by vandalism which had occurred in Graham Park the previous weekend. CTCC and many of its individual board members had been instrumental in the Park’s development, including the 2011 Centennial Scouting Plaza and Fishing Lake, where flags were stolen and numerous items had been dumped into the water.
In response, the board unanimously agreed to donate $10,000 toward the repair of the Scouting Plaza as well as some of the costs associated with damage to other parts of the park including lighting, building downspouts, and a restroom.
CTCC, which was founded in 1975 and reconfigured in 2008, is the principal sponsor of Cranberry Community Days. It has received contributions from hundreds of donors as well as many thousands of volunteer hours in developing a series of high profile community assets including the Scouting Plaza, the Community information sign at the intersection of Routes 19 and 228, Kids Castle Playground, and adult fitness stations in its parks, expected to be completed this summer.
