The classes, which carry a registration fee of $30, include a rain barrel which each participant is invited to take home and install. The selling price for a rain barrel is normally around $100, however funds collected by Haine Middle School students in Cranberry and Seven Fields are subsidizing their distribution to everyone enrolled in the class. Registration is limited to residents of those two communities and is capped at 25 participants per class session.
The rain barrel class, which has been offered several times before, will be presented by fifth grade students from Haine Middle School’s gifted student enrichment program. Its curriculum, under the direction of teacher Allison Sebbins, is focused on the environment. Home Depot is a sponsor of this year’s program, together with the Township government.
