Zoning Hearing Boards are mandated by the Pennsylvania Municipalities Planning Code. Their major roles are, first, to provide a legal mechanism for considering appeals from property owners seeking variances from zoning requirements, and second, as a way to challenge the validity of land use determinations.
The Zoning Hearing Board meets on an as-needed basis.

Residents concerned about the impact of development on Cranberry's natural environment now have an forum for pursuing those concerns. An Ad Hoc Environmental Advisory Committee was established by the Board of Supervisors, with eleven residents as members. This will be their first meeting.

The Commission reviews proposed developments in Cranberry, works with developers on bringing their plans into compliance with Township standards, and makes recommendations to the Board of Supervisors regarding final action on those plans.
