A Walk in the Park: Board considers Community Park’s future

As the Township’s oldest recreation area, Community Park has long been the center of attention for Township events and activities.

Three moves by the Board of Supervisors on April 1 continued the longstanding commitment to keeping Community Park beautiful and pristine well into the future.

During their regular meeting, Board members gave authorization to submit a grant application for funding for construction of multipurpose field improvements and stream enhancements at Community Park North to the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.

The Community Park North project has been under consideration since 2019. Among the enhancements sought in this project are the expansion and relocation of the Rotary Dog Park and the creation of new fields below the Public Safety Training Facility.

The Board also approved the submission of an application for DCNR grants for the completion of a Comprehensive Parks and Recreation Master Plan. The plan was last updated in 2010, and an updated plan is required by DCNR to be eligible for future grant funding.

As the Township awaits news on those grant applications, work to keep Community Park pristine will continue.

The Board approved hiring Herbert Rowland & Grubic Inc. to undertake the restoration design and permitting for restoration of the Community Park Stream. Work is expected to be completed this year.
