Temporary Traffic Signals Get Green Light

The Township’s new temporary traffic signals are getting the green light for their first use this week.

The signals, along with the new temporary traffic signal trailer, will be in place Wednesday, September 30 as Township crews work to restore pavement for a water line project on Powell Road at Orchard Park.

The four horizontal traffic signals were purchased for the Public Works Department to allow streets, traffic, ground, water and sewer field crews to control traffic temporarily while working on a Township road. Township decals will soon be added to the silver trailer as soon as they are prepared and produced.

The portable and easily moved signals are a cost effective and safe form of traffic control for use instead of flaggers, where possible. They recognize vehicles during their approach and sync appropriately, ensuring traffic continues to flow.

The signals meet all PennDOT and NEMA TS-5 requirements and certifications. They will not be used overnight.

Motorists should follow normal traffic signal rules by stopping on red and proceeding on green for alternating one-lane traffic.
