No Mixed Signals: Traffic signal agreement continues

handshake_blue

The Township’s intermunicipal traffic signal maintenance agreements with Adams Township, Marshall Township and Seven Fields Borough are a continuation of a concept that has been in effect, in part, since 2006.

It is based on an understanding that motorists are more concerned with moving efficiently through a common corridor than they are crossing municipal boundaries. The agreements acknowledge that traffic naturally follows a “traffic-shed,” much like stormwater flows through a watershed.

The agreements authorize Cranberry Township to manage traffic signals along Routes 228 and 19 to maintain a corridor management approach with those signals. Payments are made to the Township based on the number of signals and equipment involved at each intersection. Signal maintenance is the responsibility of each individual municipality.

The Board of Supervisors renewed the agreements for 2020 during the Jan. 31 meeting.
