Jerry Andree, Township Manager

No level of government has more impact on daily life than local government. That’s why my colleagues and I at Cranberry Township are passionate about pushing the limits of excellence to provide the best possible services to our residents and customers. However, being well-served is not a passive achievement; it is a collective undertaking. Through this blog, we offer our personal reflections on that assignment. And we hope it will help engage you in joining us on that same collaborative mission.

[ARCHIVED] Being Thankful for a Unique Mother’s Day

The original item was published from May 10, 2020 8:45 AM to January 8, 2021 9:28 AM

For the past two months, our daily lives have been turned upside down.

The stresses caused by the COVID-19 pandemic are wide ranging and hard hitting, from financial concerns to keeping families healthy.

Undoubtedly, the strong mothers and women in our community and across the country have been at the forefront of keeping households running smoothly.

It could be as unassuming as having to prepare three meals a day for a hungry family, or as challenging as becoming a teacher for their children. The laundry has certainly increased, and perhaps they have been forced to become a caregiver for an ill or at-risk relative.

Still others have had to find the right words to explain to their children why Little League season won’t happen this year, or why they can’t visit their friends for a play date.

They’re doing this while also balancing careers, with office banter replaced by declarations of boredom and hunger.

It’s a challenge unlike any other in our history, and there is no playbook. Families have been forced to adapt and carry the weight of anxiety and fear. As they tend to do, mothers have stepped up to calm those fears, perhaps while ignoring their own.

As we celebrate a Mother’s Day unlike any other, it is more important than ever to let the special woman in your life know they are appreciated and loved. The celebrations may change, with in-person dinners replaced by virtual meetings. But the sentiment remains the same.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the wonderful women in the Cranberry community. We wouldn’t be where we are without you.
