Computer Classes
Computer Classes for Spring 2013
Registration for computer classes begin January 8th and is required. Classes will begin on February 2nd and will be held Saturday mornings at 9:00 a.m. in the computer lab. Classes are free and last approximately 1 1/2 - 2 hrs. There is unlimited registration for the lecture classes (eBooks and eReaders, Introduction to Computers, Fix it, Find it, Learn it!, Social networking and Computer Security) but the others are limited.

CLASS DESCRIPTIONS:
eReader and eBooks
Come learn more about eReaders and how they work. The focus will primarily be on Amazon Kindles and Barnes and Noble Nooks. We will show you how to obtain free adult and juvenile ebooks for your enjoyment. You are welcome to bring your own device but unfortunately time for one-on-one instruction will be limited.
Computer Basics
This class is for those with little or no prior experience with a computer. Participants will learn computer terminology (CPU, desktop, floppy drive, etc.) and how to perform basic computer operations including using the mouse, launching programs, and working with the desktop.
Internet class I
This class is for those with little or no prior experience navigating the Internet. Participants will learn what the Internet is, the difference between a web browser and a search engine and the different parts of a web page.
Internet class II
This class is for those who have had some experience using the Internet but are still unsure about how it works. We will cover the difference between a search engine and a subject directory, search strategies, evaluating web sites and free email accounts.
Beginning and Intermediate Word
For those who would like to learn the fundamentals of word processing, this class focuses on the Microsoft Program Word. We will explore correcting, deleting, cutting and pasting, printing and importing pictures. Students should be able to use a mouse and have some experience using a keyboard.
Beginning and Intermediate Excel
For those who would like to learn the fundamentals of using this spreadsheet software program. This class will cover the basics of setting up a spreadsheet (for mathematical and non-mathematical purposes), using formulas, formatting and printing.
PC Troubleshooting and Maintenance
Would you like to learn what to do when your computer crashes or becomes verrry slow? Just what type of maintenance should you be doing (or not doing, which is sometimes even more important)? Learn some tips on the best practices for your computer.
Security and your PC
Learn how to keep your data secure and private. This class focuses on what you can do to keep your computer safe from viruses, worms, Trojan horses and hackers. Unfortunately in today’s world, this issue is becoming a major concern for anyone owning a computer connected to the Internet.
Social Networking
Confused about terms such as Web 2.0, social networking, wikis, folksonomies, blogs. This class will help to make these terms more understandable and participants will discover how they can participate in these interactive services.
Fix It, Find It, Learn It
Cranberry Public Library has a variety of websites that cover topics from fixing your car, to discovering what grandma's antique vase is worth, to learning to play the guitar. Other areas covered are practice tests, sample resumes, career suggestions. Learn how to discover this rich goldmine of information.
