A number of complaints about door-to-door solicitation in the Township have been reported during the past two weeks. It is unlawful in Pennsylvania for a municipality to completely ban door-to-door solicitations. But Cranberry Township does require all solicitors to secure a permit in advance from the police department. Solicitors are required to show their permit, including their name, to the people they call on. To receive a permit, the applicant must present valid identification, which could make it easier to follow up later, in case there’s a problem. But a permit should not be interpreted as an endorsement of the company, its personnel or its services. In fact, Cranberry Police strongly discourage residents from doing business with door-to-door solicitors because their success here only reinforces the frequency of their visits. Police also warn residents against allowing solicitors to enter their homes for any reason.
Cranberry’s administrative office will be closed 7/3 for Independence Day.

An early-stage proposal for a new 500Kv/135Kv electrical substation beneath the Allegheny Power high tension lines which cross a section of Community Park was presented to Cranberry’s Board of Supervisors last November. The project, which would require 5.8 acres of the 28-acre property acquired from Robert Lindner that now forms the northern portion of Community Park. It would be used to meet the area’s growing demand for electric power. A series of questions related to the safety, lighting, noise and other factors associated with the concept were raised by Supervisors and by residents attending the meeting. As a result, the company was asked to research the answers, to continue their search for alternative sites, and to come back later for a follow-up public meeting. To date, no follow-up meeting date has been set. [Additional info...]
