A total eclipse of the... sun!

On Monday, August 21, 2017, North America will be treated to a solar eclipse. Here in western PA, we'll see a partial eclipse, where the moon covers part of the sun's disk. We've rounded up some information for you here.

For more information about the eclipse, check out NASA's website, which includes information about live-streaming the event if you can't see it in person! https://eclipse2017.nasa.gov/

While Cranberry Public Library is not handing out eclipse glasses, which you'll need to view the eclipse safely, several libraries in our area are. You may want to try Monaca Public Library, Laughlin Memorial Library in Ambridge, or Andrew Bayne Memorial Library in Bellevue.

Here's a list of reputable vendors of eclipse viewing glasses: https://eclipse.aas.org/resources/solar-filters

If you can't get your hands on a set of glasses, try making a pinhole viewer at home! http://www.starnetlibraries.org/2017eclipse/
